The "special pleading" is really what drives me up a wall. By what metric do Christians, for example, consider it evil when I worship a "mere" angel, but good when they worship a mere man? ("But our man is special!" "Says who?" "He does!" Whatever.)
The world is a big place—too big for comprehension. Humility is called for, I think, even as we strive to understand as much as we can.
